The central government has launched an investigation into allegations of corruption against the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) and its affiliated commercial entity, the Country Cricket Club.
This investigation was initiated by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) after a complaint was filed by Nirmal Kaur, a retired IPS officer and the spouse of the late Amitabh Choudhary, former president of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).
On March 7, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) issued an order instructing the Regional Director to inspect the management practices of the Country Cricket Club.

The investigation will find out whether any potential irregularities or misconduct in the operations of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) and its associated commercial body are happening or not.
Amitabh Choudhary’s family raised concerns about the management of the JSCA after his demise in August 2022. They have alleged serious corruption, financial mismanagement, and fraudulent practices, including doubtful elections.
Despite Sanjay Sahay serving as the JSCA president, the former president’s family claims that local politicians have significant influence over the organization’s daily operations.

Nirmal Kaur’s complaint involves Rajiv Kumar Singh, a former director of the Country Cricket Club, based in Patna, alleging corruption and conflicts of interest. The complaint claimed that the club’s activities are not serving the public interest.
It also alleges that resources and funds given by the BCCI are being misused, as some specific individuals are getting the benefits. Apart from this, the complaint also mentioned instances of fraudulent tendering and irregularities in the election process in November 2023.
Meanwhile, Nirmal Kaur’s complaint further raises several issues regarding the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium’s infrastructure misuse and the denial of aspiring cricketers’ access to JSCA resources.

She also questioned the exclusive membership policies and lack of transparency in the club’s financial practices, as well as how Rajiv Kumar Singh can be residing within the JSCA Stadium premises since he primarily belongs to Patana.
As reported by India Today, the complaint read: “Membership is restricted just like that of Gymkhana Club. Club accounts are not properly maintained. The total income of the Club is not accounted for. Electricity bills, and all maintenance bills of the club are being paid out of BCCI grants.
The income of the Club is used in fake tendering and the Purchases and Management Committee is enriching itself with earnings of the club.” Notably, Nirmal Kaur lodged a complaint with the Jharkhand Police in December 2023, leading to the registration of an FIR at the Dhurwa Police Station.
The complaint accused specific office-bearers of the JSCA, along with Rajiv Kumar Singh, of unlawfully entering and removing items from the chambers assigned to Amitabh Choudhary immediately following his passing.
Presently, BCCI is conducting the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The Jharkhand Cricket Association stadium in Ranchi was not picked as the venue for the ongoing IPL 2024.
