World Cup Points Table After AUS vs SL

AUS vs SL was on the cards in match 14 of the ICC World Cup 2023. The match took place at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow and it was Australia who finally were off the mark in the tournament. They thumped the opposition by 5 wickets and earned important two points.

Sri Lanka were asked to bat first and they were off the flyer. Pathum Nissanka (61) and Kusal Perera (78) took Australian bowlers to the cleaners and smashed them all over the park. They added 125 runs for the opening partnership and it seemed that they would post a gigantic total on the board.

However, after that Australian bowlers made a staggering comeback and put Sri Lanka on the back foot. From 125/0 to 209/10, such was the caliber of the bowling as Sri Lanka suffered a massive collapse. Thanks to Charith Asalanka, who played a vital knock of 25 runs and made sure that his side went past 200 runs.

Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers as returned with the figures of 4/47. Apart from him, skipper Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc took two wickets each. Glenn Maxwell also chipped in as they bundled out the opposition for a low total.

Australia were off to a horrible start as David Warner (11) fell early and if this was not enough, Steve Smith bagged a golden duck. However, after that Mitchell Marsh (52) counter-attacked the Sri Lanka bowlers before he got run out, after his wicket, Marnus Labuschagne (40) and Josh Inglis (58) took the onus to themselves and took the game away from Sri Lanka.

Glenn Maxwell (31*) and Marcus Stoinis (20*) then had fun in the middle as they played without any pressure and won the game for the team. Australia managed to win the game by 5 wickets. They were under pressure coming into the game as they lost two back-to-back games before that.
