Speaking after Day 2, Jeetan Patel, England’s spin coach, said that they expected help from the pitch but they didn’t get it.

“It was hard day, a grafting day. We thought the wicket might offer a bit more this morning and it didn’t really – maybe the older ball got soft. The boys worked really, really hard and they got their rewards at the end of it,” added Patel.

“We’ll have to get these two wickets first. Once we get them, we can work out where the game is at. By the end of tomorrow, we should work out what sort of position the game’s in and where we can possibly take it.

“We’re relentlessly positive and we’re going to have use that again tomorrow and the day after that.”

The statement of the England coach hints that the pitch in Dharamsala is still good to bat and it might not be easy for the bowlers to pick wickets. However, there is a possibility of pitch assisting the bowlers as the match progresses. So it will be important for the Indian tailenders Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah to add as many runs as possible in the first session and help India take a big lead.
